Makoto Restaurant
It’s no small secret that I love great Japanese Cuisine. That’s why I can’t wait to tell you about Makoto restaurant in Bal Harbour! Let me start by saying that, while the parking at Makoto may be easy, choosing what to eat from the jaw-dropping menu is not. That’s not to say it’s hard to read or find what you want – on the contrary.
Deciding what to have at Makoto is only difficult because everything on the menu is amazing! Whether you decide to go with an appetizer of fire & ice oysters, sauteed air spinach or spicy tuna crispy rice, or skip right to the 26 oz. premium wagyu bone-in rib eye (one of my personal favorites), you won’t be disappointed. The sushi and sashimi bar is also one of the hottest spots in all of Bal Harbour.
Finish it off with the mochi ice cream or yuzu miso (fondant chocolate, sake, fresh vanilla ice cream) and you’ll be one happy customer.
When it comes to the service at Makoto, you can expect nothing but the best. Add in some light Rock ‘n’ Roll or reggae to set the mood and you’ll want to come back soon for seconds.
Bottom line: Makoto’s excellent menu and easy parking makes it a “MustGoto”!

Kane Steakhouse
Those of you new to the Miami area might not know that it has a Meatpacking District located south of fifth. You can find all kinds of great restaurants there, but there’s specifically one new tenant that caught this concierge’s eye (and stomach).
Kane Steakhouse is located at 431 Washington, perfectly nestled in among the upscale ambiance of the other venues in the area. Inside Kane you’ll find a beautifully revamped decor – my favorite were the plush white booths – a courteous and professional wait staff, and complete menu that satisfies even the most picky of steak lovers and dining enthusiasts.
During my last visit I started off with the foie gras torchon with toasted baguette, followed by the bone-in rib eye, crispy fried seaweed and the lobster macaroni and cheese (to die for) as my main course. For dessert I settled on the chocolate trio, a mix of sweets that perfectly topped off the meal.
Kane also serves cuts of fish and poultry, like the grilled swordfish and organic whole chicken, and offers a fairly extensive wine and cocktail list.
Bottom line: If you’ve yet to visit Miami’s Meatpacking District, make sure to make Kane one of your first stops.

Vita by Bâoli Miami
Located across from the Shore Club on Collins, Vita by Bâoli Miami is elegantly placed in the heart of Miami Beach. Modeled closely after the wildly popular Bâoli nightclub in Cannes, France, the interior of Vita Miami will make you feel like you’ve hopped a red-eye flight to Europe. The exotically unique décor is worth a visit in itself.
But let’s get to the meat of the situation – the menu. At first glance it seems dauntingly extensive, but don’t let that scare you away. The staff at Vita Miami is very professional and can easily help you put together the feast your taste buds are looking for. During my last visit I ordered the crab cake with beet salad, mussel pot, and the lobster risotto along with a couple of excellent sides to share with my date. To say we were satisfied would be an understatement. If you’re a chocolate lover, dessert at VITA is a must. Leave a little room for the chocolate fondue, I highly recommend it! Add a little espresso and sambuca to finish off the perfect meal.

Il Mulino at Acqualina
Il Mulino, located inside Acqualina Resort in Sunny Isles, is one of the truly exceptional Italian restaurants around. They have excellent market fresh daily specials, an extensive wine list and their wait staff is first-rate.
They even often offer you a plethora of tasty appetizers before your meal even arrives – sometimes so much that you are full by the time the final course comes!
Their New York restaurants are the #1 Zagat survey rated Italian restaurants in the city, and the quality is no different here in South Florida. Make sure to call ahead and make a reservation because the food is so good there is often a wait to sit.
Bottom line: Excellent Italian cuisine, tasty appetizers, extensive wine lists and an exceptional wait staff make Il Mulino a must-try!

Billy’s Stone Crabs
Craving some delicious seafood but don’t want to head to the crowded Joe’s Stone Crab on South Beach? No Problem! Billy’s Stone Crab (son-in-law to Joe) has an excellent spot in Hollywood, just a few short minutes from Trump Hollywood.
Billy says that seven out of 10 customers order the stone crabs, and I recommend you do too! But if you’re just not feeling the crabs, their diversified menu will definitely have a delicious dish for you. I even find the atmosphere to be more relaxing and the menu easier to navigate than their Miami counterpart.
Even after a bellyful of stone crabs, make sure you save room for dessert… their famous Key Lime Pie. Made under exclusive contract with a bakery in Key West, the pie travels over 100 miles north just to be devoured by Billy’s customers. I didn’t leave a crumb to spare.
If you plan it right, you can even go for a meal around dusk and enjoy a spectacular view of the sunset while you’re there. It’s one of the best around!
Bottom line: Famous stone crabs with the convenience and beautiful sunsets of Hollywood Beach.

Naoe
If you’re looking for the best Japanese cuisine in Miami, you’ve come to the right concierge. Naoe, located in Sunny Isles, is one of the true hidden gems located just minutes from Trump Hollywood. The restaurant specializes in natural Japanese cuisine, and every Wednesday through Sunday Chef Kevin Cory creates a unique “Chef’s Choice” menu during the two reservation seating times at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m.
There’s no traditional menu – not that you need one – because everything the chef serves is absolutely delicious. Chef Cory creates a special course each day and during the reservation times there are live food presentations, which are just the icing on the cake “rice on the roll.”
If you’re already interested, just know that reservations are required and exclusively accepted online via OpenTable. Private parties are available, along with special requests – just make sure to give them a week’s notice first. You can find a link to more details at the site below.
Naoe has won dozens of awards, including being named one of the top 50 restaurants in the United States by OpenTable. It’s also just earned a brand new award – Benny Approved!

Picture this: You just spent a fantastic night at Trump Hollywood, drinking, dancing, mingling and whatnot. But you know that driving in your state of… ahem… “liquid bliss” is not a safe idea. What do you do with your car if you have to take a taxi home?
I recommend RedCap, a new kind of chauffeur service that pairs your car with a RedCap driver. Simply become a member, call, text or email ahead, and a driver quickly arrives to take you, in your car, safely to your next destination. When you’re through and home safely, the driver simply bids you adieu. (I’d tell you how they get home, but I was sworn to secrecy!)
RedCap is the perfect service for getting to the airport, getting your car serviced, medical appointments and even preventing DUI’s. The excellent drivers will cater to your every need, whether it is getting gas for your car (charged to your credit card) or acting as your P.U.H. (personal umbrella holder). Thank goodness every RedCap driver carries an umbrella in this South Florida weather!
The best part is that RedCap services are typically less expensive but of higher quality than traditional methods of transportation. If you book early, you can even score a local deal for as low as $10!
Luckily for us here at Trump Hollywood, RedCap is located in Fort Lauderdale, so a driver is always just a few minutes away. Some local restaurants are even beginning to use RedCap as an on-call service.

Taco Beach Shack on Hollywood Beach
Taco Beach Shack is a must-eat locale. First of all, they offer a nice, easy menu with something for everyone. I first tried the Brisket Taco with a nice smoked flavor – to die for. I could have eaten just the brisket by itself it was so delicious. The Korean taco, too, was unexpectedly delicious with its savory sauce. The grilled corn is nicely seasoned and, paired with a few Negra Modelo beers, this meal alone will keep me coming back again and again.
The atmosphere is also spectacular; on weekends there’s live music and plenty of room for dancing, that is, if you’re not too stuffed! Make sure to visit their site (posted below) for a menu that will get your mouth watering. (WARNING: hazardous to your keyboard!)
Bottom line: This is a nice place to dress casually, enjoy music and fantastic food, and is just up the street from Trump Hollywood.
